Advantages of Shellac / Gel Nail Polish

Hi Nail Aficionados,

 I want to talk to you about the advantages of shellac / gel nail polish. If you love getting manicures with polish that is long lasting, protective and chip resistant for two weeks or more weeks this polish type is for you!

IBD Shellac in METEORITE
 Shellac was originally created by Creative Nail Design or CND in California in 2011, so it is still a relatively new concept. You can now buy your own kits from places like Priceline and chemists but when it was released it was salon only. I still only like the salon versions as I think the quality might be better, but I haven't had the chance to try an at home kit yet so that may change.(Let me know your thoughts!)

I work with IBD Just Gelish Polish as a beauty therapist and I adore it. I have found with this polish and my nails being properly prepped and painted by a co worker my manicure can last, chip resistant, for anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks! I was so impressed when I first tried it, I'm addicted to shellac now. My plan is to work my way through all the colours we have in stock. Which is roughly only 20 at the moment but we have plans to get more. I'm so excited.

The blurb on the IBD website of their Just Gelish Polishes is this;
"Treat your customers to Just Gel Polish - the strong 100% pure gel formula that wears like a classic true gel. Apply it just like polish and be rewarded with richer, more even color. And time is on your side because this versatile gel polish cures quickly under either LED or UV light. It also protects natural nails with stronger, long-lasting wear. Gel removal is cinch, too. Remove Just Gel Polish easily in just 10 minutes with no muss, no fuss."  (http://www.ibdbeauty.com/products.php?catid=48)

Because of my new love affair with shellac / gel polish I thought I would share with you the advantages of shellac so you have a better understanding of this new nail technology and will hopefully go and try it and love it as much as I do.

So here we go!

1. Shellac protects and strengthens your natural nails. As it is a polish that is cured under an LED or UV lamp and there is no harsh filing of the nail plate so your natural nails can grow strong under the polish as it acts as a thick coating to stop breakage.

My natural nails after 4 weeks of shellac, I started with no free edge.

2. Shellac is easily removed with acetone and foil wraps. We soak a piece of cotton in acetone and place it on the nail and then wrap each finger in a special foil. The acetone coupled with your body heat helps to seperate the polish from the nail and it then just peels off.

3. Shellac is applied just like your regular nail polish. The only difference is that each layer is cured under a special LED or UV lamp. Our lamp requires a set time of 90 seconds for each thin layer. After the nail is prepped a bondant is applied and cured then a base coat, two layers of coloured polish then a top coat, each layer is set for 90 seconds before moving onto the next. To finish the nail is wiped over with alcohol to remove any sticky residue and create shine.

4. As it is cured with LED or UV light your nails are touch dry straight after so no getting your therapist or nail tech to fish through your handbag for your car keys! Just be gentle with your nails for the next hour or so.

5. As  I mentioned before the polish lasts 2 to 4 weeks, it all depends on how rough you are with your nails and your nail regrowth. No dealing with chipped manicures straight after an application.

6. If you want just a shellac paint without the full manicure you can be out the door in 20 minutes. It's that fast and simple.

You will be paying a little bit more for shellac than you would a typical manicure but it is so worth it.

Here are some colours I've tried.  (As well as the top picture)

IBD Shellac in MY BABE
